Summit Artspace gives art a fresh perspective

Summit Artspace is on a mission to make the people of Akron laugh. Their current exhibition, “Fresh & Witty,” is all about being clever, funny, and silly. In Artspace’s 5th annual Fresh Art juried exhibition, Akron area artists were asked to think like comedians and create humorous works of art for a chance to earn prizes and recognition in their community.

Submissions came from all over the northeastern Ohio area in many forms and medias. Mitchell Kahan, director of the Akron Art Museum, and Christopher Hixson, graphic designer, carefully judged all submissions and a lucky 49 of the most humorous creations were selected for display. The top three pieces earned prizes of $500, $300, and $200 for providing the most laughs.

The exhibit is currently on display and visitors are welcome to view the artist’s pieces and to support Summit Artspace’s continued contribution to the arts. The exhibit is available to the public through September 19th every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 pm.

Artspace is a part of the Akron Area Arts Alliance, a non-profit advocacy group. The gallery is located at 140 E. Market Street downtown. For more information and updates about future events, visit www.summitartspace.org.
