Akron, Ohio is a vibrant city with plenty of public transportation options for its residents. The Metropolitan Regional Transit Authority (METRO RTA), also known as the Akron Metropolitan Regional Transit Authority, is the public transportation agency that serves Summit County, Ohio and the city of Akron. METRO RTA provides bus routes that serve downtown Akron and its neighborhoods. These routes are funded by taxes on motor vehicle fuel consumed in Ohio that exceeds fuel purchased and taxed in Ohio. GCRTA, a neighboring transportation agency, offers connecting services between Cuyahoga County, Ohio (Cleveland metropolitan area) and Akron METRO RTA.

METRO RTA also offers a variety of discounts for seniors, students, veterans, and people with disabilities. METRO RTA also offers a variety of programs to help riders save money on their fares. These programs include reduced fares for seniors and people with disabilities, free rides for veterans on Veterans Day, and discounted fares for students.
